Kim Cattrall is an accomplished British-Canadian actress known for her role as Samantha Jones in the HBO series Sex and the City. She has appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout her career, but many may not know that she was a champion basketball player earlier in life. Here are some of the lesser-known facts about Kim Cattrall's basketball career:
1. Kim started playing organized basketball when she was 11 years old at Notre Dame Secondary School in Vancouver, Canada.
2. In 1975, she won a championship with Notre Dame and was named MVP of the tournament.
3. After graduating from high school, Kim attended Sirius Community College where she led her team to victory twice during her two seasons on the team.
4. Following Sirius, Kim transferred to York University where she was a member of the school’s women’s basketball varsity team from 1978-1980. During her time there, she scored an impressive 1,048 points in only two seasons and became the school's all-time leading scorer.
5. In 1979, Kim helped York win their first ever Ontario Women's Interuniversity Athletics Association (OWIAA) championship and was named tournament MVP for the second time in her career.
6. After graduating from York with a degree in drama, Kim moved to England where she had a brief stint playing professional basketball for Nottingham Wildcats before turning to acting full-time.
7. While in England, Kim was part of the GB Junior Women's Basketball team and won a gold medal at the World Student Games in Edmonton, Canada in 1983.
8. In 2004, Kim Cattrall was inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame for her outstanding achievements on the basketball court.
9. In 2012, York University honoured her accomplishments by naming their new sports facility "The Kim Cattrall Court".
